My theory for the finale of LOST:
It’s pretty brief and to the point so here it goes. In Season 5, Daniel Faraday first said that “Whatever happened, happened.” Nothing can be changed. Then he changed his mind and said they could change the future. By blowing up the hydrogen bomb, Desmond would never go to the Island and never cause Oceanic 815 to crash.
What if Daniel Faraday was right the first time though? The Incident ALWAYS happened. It was never anything different from a bunch of random people who showed up to the Island blowing up a hydrogen bomb. That ALWAYS happened.
In Season 6, we were introduced to a new story-telling device where we saw Oceanic 815 land safely in LA. We were led to think that because the bomb detonated, there are two realities. But what if we’ve been mislead? What if they need to actually destroy the Island so the plane can’t crash on it? Again, we’ve never been told in this season what year they are on the Island or what year they are in the “Flash-Sideways”. We see the plane go over the ocean and then see the Island under water. Some buildings under water were built after 1970 but built before 1995. So the Island has to sink sometime during that time period, right?
My theory is that in the finale, Jack and Desmond will end up figuring out a way to sink the Island. This goes along with Richard saying he saw everyone die and also goes along with some theories about the Volcano that was once on the Island. Last night, we found out the Smoke Monster is from a cave filled with light. Desmond’s “weapon” is that he is able to with stand that energy/light and will be able to travel down the cave and ultimately destroy the Monster.
My guesses are that the final scene will be Jack and Desmond in the ocean with the Island sunk beneath them. They will then simply drown, camera will zoom back out to Jack and Desmond sitting on the plane. If they don’t sink the Island, my guesses are the final scene will be of Jack and Locke sitting on a log having the same discussion MIB and Jacob had in the Season 5 finale, as we see a new group of people arriving to the Island. Also, I’m counting on seeing Claire leave the Island on a helicopter in the finale, proving what Desmond said was true and Charlie didn’t die in vain.
